There has been some speculation that Netflix would eventually come to the Dune. However, I would not expect it for the current models until there is some sort of official announcement

I want to know if you manged to get your Harmony 900 to directly open an item in the Dune Favourites menu ( I want to switch to Yadis when I selct "watch my videos" activity,but not able to do that yet.)

If you have can you please post it in the MPCC site. Reall appreciate it.

It's a leanback internet tv portal with multiple categories and visual bookmarks for access to your favorite channels, apps, or streams.

The app is still very much Alpha and currently works best with Chrome Browser, though Firefox 4+, Opera, and Safari compatibility is in the works.

I had an original ATV that I had installed XBMC on but I actually sold it a few months ago on eBay. I rarely used it since it could not handle my HD content. I think as long as you understand the limitation on what it cannot play back it makes for a very interesting combination (especially since you could get the ATV very cheap)

Unfortunately you will need the TV. I am hopeful that now that there is IP control an App will come out that will allow you to do all this without the need to have the TV on

I agree, and I have become of the mindset that unless that are specific features you need from an HTPC or you just want to completely geek out, going with a dedicated media player/STB is the way to go. I have a mix in my house (3 HTPCs and 3-4 media players) and find myself more and more just using the media players.

I was looking for a kind of set-top box, avoiding a 'real' HTPC as itself but I suppose I could have a look at cheap and silence HTPC solutions.

Hi Emilio,

The internet browsing is pretty much useless IMO. I only tested it a few times, navigating around was horrible and my guess any site requiring embedded players will not work. For now I think if internet browsing is a key feature then an HTPC is your best option.

I'm thinking about purchasing this Dune Smart D1 (although I was really interested in the D-Link Boxee Box, I need component output, so...) and I was wondering what's your opinion about the Internet Browsing capabilities of this unit. You say it has 'limitations' and, since this is a key feature for me, I wanted to know whether it is capable of reproducing videos in web pages such as http://www.crtvg.es/TVGacar... (galician (spain) local tv, with all the series available for direct streaming). I usually watch episodes of tv series in my computer (linux and mplayer plugin most of the times, flash embedded players other times) through the official web pages of the spanish local tvs, and I would like to be able of doing that directly on the tv.

Unfortunately not. I have had generally good success with the HD PVR but have encountered issues with freezing periodically. The HDHomerun that I use I have had running for over a year now and it has been rock solid. I also have a Hauppauge 2250 and overall it works well (although recently I have been getting errors with the Analog tuner)

Hey damien, just found your blog and was wondering if you had any time to help answer some prob super simple questions I have regarding HD DVD ripping/Encoding. Just invested in a hdHomerun and loving it. Canceled cable and now using 360 as an extender for my WMC box. When you have a problem to fix in Windows, but it lags or freezes before you get a chance to try to fix or uninstall the problem, then you can boot your computer up in safe mode. Booting in safe mode will load only the drivers absolutely necessary for windows to run, allowing you to repair the problem without crashes.
